'Gentle' U.S. Racehorse Rescued from Slaughterhouse in South Korea by PETA: 'Now She Grazes Freely'

My Elusive Dream, a Thoroughbred racehorse, was scheduled to be sent to the "largest" slaughterhouse in South Korea

The animal rights nonprofit organization recently announced that they rescued the animal when she was just moments away from entering the largest horse slaughterhouse in South Korea.

My Elusive Dream, who raced at top U.S. horse racing tracks and is the daughter of 2002 leading North American horse El Prado, was "forced to breed" following her racing career and welcomed five foals in the United States, before then welcoming three more offspring in South Korea, where she was sold for $7,500.

As she was recently scheduled to be sent to the "largest" slaughterhouse in the nation, according to PETA, activists saved her by "staking out" the road to the location.

PETA said that after its members "boldly intercepted" the vehicle carrying My Elusive Dream, they were able to convince the driver to release her.

My Elusive Dream is now located at a "secure, temporary sanctuary" in South Korea, according to PETA.

There, she is "receiving food, affection, and veterinary care in a sanctuary, where she rolls in the grass and runs as she pleases alongside other horses," the organization said.

My Elusive Dream will "soon" be released back to the United States, per PETA, where she will live out the rest of her days at Adena Springs in Florida.

“This gentle horse was shipped overseas and used as a breeding machine until she was sold off to a meat buyer, but PETA’s investigators intervened just in time,” PETA Senior Vice President Kathy Guillermo, said in a statement.

“Now she grazes freely, socializes with other horses, and runs whenever she chooses, not at the sound of the starting bell," she added of My Elusive Dream.
